Saudi Gazette report

RIYADH – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Czech Ambassador and expressed the Kingdom’s condemnation of Paseka Publishing House for translating and publishing blasphemous book “Satanic Verses” by Salman Rushdie, as it insults Islam and Muslims.

The ministry emphasized that the Kingdom was against any attempt to distort Islam. The Kingdom, it said, denounces contempt of all religions, cultures and their symbols in any way and by any party. The ministry expressed its hope that the Czech government will be cautious about such matters and stop publishing this book and its new translation, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) quoted an official source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as stating Friday.
