What does Saudi Arabia want to see in the 2016 US elections?

Saudi Arabia, one of America’s strongest allies in the Middle East, has had a rough eight years dealing with a laid-back US administration.  The Saudis, who have advocated a strong US intervention to destroy Assad’s regime along with Daesh (the self-proclaimed IS), were not supported by President Obama. This led to independent action, such as Saudi Arabia leading a coalition to destroy Houthi rebels who are sponsored by Iran in Yemen.

As a Saudi, I know that Riyadh would certainly welcome a conservative to be elected to the White House. Indeed, Republicans, who talked more about the Middle East than economics in their second debate, are more concerned about national security than their counterparts.

Thus, they might collaborate extensively with Arab states to destroy Daesh as well as to help deal with Iranian activities in the region. Saudi officials no longer accept a destabilized Middle East, and the region will never be safe without a same-thinking, hard-working US Commander-in-Chief.

Saudis, however, will not vote for who will lead America. It is up to the American people to choose a person who will either be harsh on the Middle East or meek; a person who will cut military spending or expand it; a person who will support the Patriot Act or fight it. For Saudi Arabia, the security of the region is what matters, but for America, what is it that matters?
